The team

The Department offers clients a range of services including guiding clients on the promotion of (and opposition to) major infrastructure projects in the road, rail, light rapid transit and ports sectors, planning, legislative drafting, parliamentary procedures, public law advice, compulsory purchase, environmental and nature conservation law advice, and procurement and competition advice. 


We also advise on legislative procedures including parliamentary processes and procedures of the devolved Parliaments and Assemblies of the UK.  We also advise on EU law and legislative processes. We are on the drafting panel for the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission.

The opportunity

The main responsibility of this role is to advise on a range of public law matters (whilst focusing on Public Procurement) including:

  • Advising on Public Procurement law, both on behalf of contracting authorities and those bidding for contracts.
  • General public law advice, including FOIA and Data protection, Human Rights Act and related matters.
  • Advising on powers and vires, including detailed interpretation of statutory powers involving analysis of complex legislation.
  • Drafting amendments to legislation (public or private) and/or reviewing proposed primary/secondary legislation.
Who we are looking for
  • Admission to the Solicitors’s Roll
  • 2:1 Degree or higher
  • Experience of the public procurement regime, ideally acting for both bidders and contracting authorities, with a broad understanding of the practical application of the regulations and if possible experience of bringing and or defending a challenge to procurement processes
  • General public law experience and expertise
  • Experience of parliamentary process and procedure including understanding of stages at which a Bill maybe influenced
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years PQE of working in a public law team
